Why It Matters
Why It Matters
Why It Matters
Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility. Whether it’s protecting our students’ sensitive data, safeguarding your personal accounts, or ensuring your devices are secure, every small step you take makes a big difference. Cybercriminals often target K-12 schools and personal devices, so staying vigilant is key to keeping our community safe.

- Safeguard Your Network
- Change default passwords on your home Wi-Fi and use a strong, unique password.
- Rename your network to avoid personal identifiers, such as your last name.
- Ensure your router and smart devices are running the latest firmware updates.
- Stay Alert to Phishing and Scams
- Watch for red flags such as generic greetings, urgent requests, or unexpected attachments.
- Never share personal information like passwords or financial details through email or text.
- Report phishing attempts immediately to help protect others in the community.
- Backup and Protect Your Data
- Regularly back up your files to a secure cloud service or external drive.
- Use encryption when sharing sensitive information or storing it online.
- Teach family members, especially children, about safe browsing habits and avoiding scams.
- Protect Your Passwords
- Use strong, unique passwords with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever possible for an extra layer of protection.
- Consider using a password manager to securely store and generate strong passwords.
- Think Before You Click
- Be cautious with emails or links, especially if they seem urgent or suspicious.
- Always hover over links to verify their destination before clicking.
- If unsure, forward suspicious emails to reportphish@sutter.k12.ca.us for verification.
- Secure Your Devices
- Lock all devices (computers, phones, tablets) when not in use.
- Enable biometric security or strong passwords for your devices.
- Keep your devices updated with the latest software and security patches.
