Social Emotional Learning and Mental Wellness
ABOUT
According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), SEL is “an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”
The Sutter County Superintendent of Schools, Student Support and Outreach (SSO) offers a variety of Social Emotional and Mental Wellbeing program services.
WHAT IS SEL?
According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), SEL is “an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”
Student Support and Outreach offers a variety of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mental Wellbeing supports including:
1.) SCHOOL COUNSELING CONSORTIUM
The Sutter County Counseling Consortium provides counseling services to students across 13 different school districts. Our goal is to improve student achievement by reducing chronic absenteeism and increasing graduation rates throughout the county.
School Counselors help ALL students to apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force)
2.) MOBILE ACCESS HUB
Mobile Access Hub (MAH) is a Bi-County Collaboration / Sutter and Yuba County . Our Mission is to educate students and staff, remove negative stigmas and provide responsive services to students identified as having a mental health need via a Mobile Access Hub model. Our Vision is for all children in Yuba and Sutter County Schools to have equitable access to mental health services in order to be self-sufficient at maintaining their mental health and to maximize their engagement in the academic and social experiences designed by our schools.
Click HERE to check out our MAH Padlet to learn more about the Brief History of MAH, our collaborative partners and how to access resources.
3.) PEER RESOURCE ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM (PREP)
PREP's mission is to empower youth with the opportunity to lead efforts in youth mental health education and awareness. Our PREP team strive to promote mental wellness, end mental health stigmas in schools, encourage youth advocacy and gain valuable mental wellness knowledge and skills.
